Resources
For
Homeschoolers
The
best
homeschool resources
I
ever
found
for
children
have
one
very
important
feature:
they're
fun.
No
matter
what
the
subject,
if
the
learning
activity
is
fun
and
engaging,
the
children
learn.
Every
time.
I
have
compiled
links
to a
variety
of
recommended
games,
literary
magazines,
books,
puzzles
and
brain
teasers,
kits,
manipulatives,
and
other
hands-on
learning
activities
for
your
homeschool
program that
will
help
you
to
teach
any K
through
6
subject.
(Some
for
teens
as
well.)
For
more
great
hands-on
ideas,
most
of
which
you
can
create
cost-free
and

Love!
Please
bear
in
mind
this
list
of
recommendations
is
not
all-inclusive!
It
would
be
impossible
to
list
here
all
of
the
wonderful
resources
that
are
available
to
homeschoolers.
Use
these
links
as a
starting
point
to
find
items
that
are
right
for
you,
your
children,
and
your
homeschooling
program.
Books
Books
for
Parents
These
resources
will
help
you
to
better
help
your
children.
I am
not
including
books
specific
to
"homeschooling"
here,
as
you
can
find
them
on
any
homeschool
site.
(Or
try
Amazon
search
in
the
sidebar
to
the
right;
type
in
"homeschool.")
The
books
listed
here
offer
specific
information
that
you
can
use
as
you
seek
to
better
understand
and
teach
your
children.
3-D /
Pop-up
Books
Children
love
these
3-dimensional,
interactive
books.
To a
young
child,
pop-ups
bring
books
to
life!
You'll
be
reading
these
books
again
and
again
to
your
child.
Eventually,
he or
she
will
be
able
to
handle
them
alone,
and
you
can
be
sure
your
child
will
treasure
and
take
care
of
them,
as we
want
our
children
to do
with
all
books.
We
still
own
pop-up
books
that
we
have
had
since
my
adult
children
were
toddlers.
(Yes,
we
have
had
to
make
a few
repairs
to
allow
the
younger
children
to
enjoy
them
too!)
Children's
Books
-
Collections
and
Series
One
of
the
best
ways
to
get
kids
reading
is to
introduce
them
to an
exciting
book
series.
Knowing
that
upon
finishing
the
current
exciting
volume,
another
one
awaits,
a
ho-hum
reader
becomes
an
avid
reader.
This
even
works
with
teens.
When
I
introduced
my
(at
the
time)
16-year-old
son
to
Philip
Pullman's,
The
Golden
Compass,
for
example,
and
he
dove
right
into
The
Amber
Spyglass
and
then
The
Subtle
Knife.
As a
child,
I
read
every
Happy
Hollisters
mystery
adventure
I
could
get
my
hands
on,
as
well
as
many
other
book
series.
Children's
Selected Classics
-
Timeless
Favorites
We
all
had
our
favorite
classics
as
kids.
My
husband's
was
Treasure
Island.
I
love
Tom
Sawyer
and
Huckleberry
Finn.
Be
sure
to
introduce
your
children
to
the
classics
you
loved
as a
child.
Some
of
the
best
are
included
here.
New
Children's
Classics
- Not
to be
Missed!
How
long
before
a
wonderful
piece
of
literature
becomes
a
"classic?"
Although
these
stories
are
recently
published,
they
have
the
timeless
makings
of
treasured
classics:
fresh,
unique,
and
beautifully
told.
All
have
received
literary
awards,
which
are
listed
in
the
descriptions.
New
Classics
-
Fantasy
-
Very
Popular
High
adventure,
suspense,
and
surprises
along
the
way:
children's
fantasy
challenges
the
imagination
like
nothing
else;
and
draws
even
"non-readers"
into
its
pages.
These
wonderful
new
titles
come
highly
recommended!
Christmas
Classics
- Old
and
New
As
the

season
approaches,
your

and
the
magic
of
Christmas.
Included
here
are
are

want
to

References
Basic
References
What
kinds
of
references
do
you
need?
Well,
most
everything!
Each
child
needs
a
good
personal
dictionary
for
starters,
but
beyond
that,
a
quality
homeschool
reference
library
includes
these
tools.
Children's
Cookbooks
Recipe
books
are
perfect
for
homeschooling.
Not
only
will
your
children
practice
reading,
they
will
improve
their
math
skills
(measuring,
fractions),
learn
to
follow
directions,
learn
to
clean
up
after
themselves,
and
become
real
experts
in
the
kitchen.
All
while
creating
wonderful
things
to
eat,
crafts,
and
exciting
experiments!
Drawing
and
Art
Books
A
non-artist
teaching
fine
arts?
You
can
do
it!
First,
throw
away
the
coloring
books
and
get
lots
of
blank
paper.
Your
child
just
needs
the
right
tools
and a
little
encouragement.
These
books
and
artist's
supplies
will
get
the
creative
juices
flowing.
Help
your
children
improve
their
drawing
skills,
meet
the
masters,
and
develop
a
love
of
the
arts.

Activity
Books
and
Magazines
Brain
Teasers,
Puzzles,
Mazes
Children
love
puzzles,
mazes,
brainteasers,
and
visual
challenges.
Think
of
these
as
exercises
for
the
brain
that
are
FUN!
Great
for
rainy
days,
break
time,
or
any
other
time
during
the
school
day.
Children's
Literary
Magazines
What
could
better
promote
a
love
of
reading
than
getting
your
own
personal
magazines
in
the
mail?
We've
selected
the
very
best
literary
magazines
for
children
of
all
ages.
You
won't
find
commercial
advertising
here;
only
high
quality
children's
literature,
crafts,
poetry,
activities,
and
much
more.
Science
Books,
Activities,
and
Magazines
Science
was
very
big
at
our
house.
In
fact,
one
of my
sons
decided
to
learn
to
read
so
that
he
could
learn
more
about
science.
Be
sure
to
have
plenty
of
science
resources
available;
they'll
be
used
again
and
again!
Kids'
Discovery
Magazines
Stimulate
and
challenge
your
child's
curiosity
with
magazines
that
introduce
everything
from
space
to
visual
arts
to
historical
figures.
An interesting
and
fun
way
to
get
kids
reading,
researching,
and
writing
about
people,
places,
social
issues,
and
the
world
around
them.
Kits,
Crafts,
and
Manipulatives
Crafts
and
Handwork
Every
homeschooler's
curriculum
should
include
hand-work.
Why?
Because
handwork
rests
the
brain,
while
at
the
same
time
encourages
working
with
the
hands
