Dear Homeschooling Friend,
As a homeschooling parent of five children, I found myself constantly in search of engaging learning activities and the best homeschool lesson plans and ideas. Although I had a college education, I also wondered if I was really capable of teaching my own children. I never expected homeschooling to be easy, (everyone had warned me of that). But, I also believed that the rewards for my family would be great; so we surged forward.
I didn’t want to use one of those expensive “curriculum in a box” programs that we now see all over the Internet. (Yes, they were available then too.) The one-size-fits-all approach was too similar to classroom teaching, too expensive, and that was not what I envisioned for our homeschool. Why?
Because I knew that my children have different personality types and learning styles. I recognized that to successfully teach each child, I would need to consider who they were: their personal interests, their strengths, their attention spans, and their individual temperaments.
And, I knew that if I wanted my home schooling program to be successful I would need to make learning FUN.
So, with decided determination (and my own natural creative nature), I began my quest to seek out and develop the best possible learning activities and projects for my children. After fifteen years of successful homeschooling on a limited budget (and often through trial and error), I was able to accumulate files and files of inexpensive homeschooling ideas that really work; including successful lessons, hands-on projects, and engaging learning activities.

I spread the alphabet cards out on the living room floor, and we began to arrange the cards into simple three letter words.
My little one caught on to our game right away, and quickly learned all of the short vowel sounds. Immediately, he was creating and sounding out words of his own. He didn’t care so much about the reading lesson; he was just having fun deciding which of his words were real words and which ones were silly nonsense words!
